My name is Jarrod Thompson. I am a passionate gardener and outdoorsman who has spent the last four years studying horticulture and working in the landscape industry. I have a bachelor’s degree in Ecological Landscape Design from the University of Vermont and have decided to open my own business to offer ecologically-friendly garden care to the Upper Valley.
Natural Garden Design is a company that sprung up from my curiosity for wildlife, ecology, and the natural world. My approach is grounded in understanding the site fully, as I find that paying close attention to the surrounding landscape can give insight into what might be appropriate for your garden. Each site has a unique character and through careful observation, these characteristics can be accentuated and optimized to create a resilient and functional planting. I aim for a planting that is:
Representative of New England’s natural plant communities
Lush, layered, and dynamic; blending a wild and manicured aesthetic
Optimized to promote biodiversity, soil health, wildlife habitat, and personal enjoyment

A detailed walk through your property to discuss your goals, vision, site challenges, aesthetic preferences, logistics, and anything else. After a more comprehensive site analysis, I will work through the design process and present a finalized planting plan for later implementation.
Small to medium scale installation, usually using smaller plants and seeds that will fill in quickly. Includes new gardens and/or filling in empty niches in existing gardens.
Holistic and ecologically friendly garden care that promotes healthy plants, soil and biodiversity. Weeding, pruning, edging, deadheading, cutbacks, division, fertilizing, mulching, disease and pest management.
